Kinsta Review – How good is Kinsta?

Kinsta is a cloud-based host offering premium managed WordPress hosting.

Choosing a WordPress host can be challenging, confusing, and time-consuming. There are hundreds of web hosts trying to grab your business, but only a handful stand out, and Kinsta is one of them.

Kinsta, founded in 2013, is a managed WordPress host with headquarters in the United States. The company has established itself as one of the leading managed WordPress hosting companies in the world, and according to their website, they have over 21,500 clients and counting.

As a managed service, you can expect your WordPress website to be fully supported at all times. Kinsta support covers everything from malware removal to all types of technical and performance issues. All plans include daily, six-hourly and hourly backups, free SSL, DDOS protection, hardware firewalls, uptime and performance monitoring, staging websites and free site migrations.

So how good is Kinsta?

I have worked with many web hosts, from budget cPanel hosting to enterprise-level hosting and everything in between, and what I will say is that this company is up there with the very best – and judging by the feedback on Trustpilot and online Kinsta reviews, I am not the only one to think so.

Kinsta has an excellent rating on Trustpilot. This is based on 472 customer reviews at the time of writing.

I have several clients hosted with Kinsta, and everything from support to performance and most importantly speed has been near perfect. Their “support team speaks WordPress fluently”, they have a mix of experienced developers and engineers at hand available around the clock, so you can rest assured that some of the very best in the business is looking after your website.

Kinsta uses the Google Cloud Platform. Their architecture is all about speed and agility with Nginx, LXD containers, and the latest version of PHP. Your WordPress website will be hosted on the same state-of-the-art infrastructure as Google. Companies such as Spotify, Twitter, HTC, Ocado, Philips, and Goldman Sachs are amongst some of the giants that also use Google’s infrastructure to power their online businesses, so you are in good company.

The highly scalable hardware of the Google Cloud Platform ensures your website always has access to a pool of resources when it needs it. For example, if your website suddenly had a traffic spike, automatic scaling ensures your site will be able to handle any surges in traffic.

Being a Google Cloud Platform partner gives Kinsta access to numerous data centres around the world. This means that you have the choice to host your website in any of the 28 global server locations that are currently available.

As well as having access to the latest technology, Kinsta is packed with handy features that will make managing your WordPress business without the need to have any technical experience.

With Kinsta you don’t need a caching plugin. Without you having to lift a finger, Kinsta implements four types of caching; page cache, object cache, bytecode cache and CDN cache. Caching happens at the server level, but you can still manage your cache directly from your WordPress dashboard using Kinsta’s own cache plugin.

You can create staging websites where you can test out new plugins, themes and customisations before they go live on your production website. You can also clone websites which can be handy if you want to duplicate a website without having to build everything from scratch.

You also get an instant overview of performance, uptime and visitor analytics directly on your Kinsta dashboard.

Is Kinsta expensive?

Kinsta is not cheap, that’s for sure. If you are just starting out and your website receives very little traffic, starting your hosting journey with Kinsta may not be the wisest business decision unless, of course, you have the budget to do so.

Their plans start from $30 (£22.50) per month and increase to $1500 (£1125) and beyond. Kinsta’s starter and pro plans are ideal for small websites. If you run an e-commerce or membership website, their business plans will be better suited as you get access to a larger number of PHP workers, increased disk space and an increased monthly visitor allowance.
