Berto

Based on speed, uptime, customer support, and cost, I’ve put together a list of the best-shared web hosting companies in the UK.

What is shared web hosting?

Shared web hosting is a type of hosting where the service provider serves multiple websites from a single web server. This is generally the most economical option for hosting, as the overall cost of server maintenance is spread over many customers.

Best UK web hosting companies

Let’s take a look at the most popular web hosting companies serving the UK.

20i

20i.com offers a load-balanced, autoscaling hosting platform at very generous prices. There is no single point of failure giving you optimal reliability, 24/7.

20i.com is an excellent host that has proven itself to be a worthy contender as one of the best web hosting companies in the UK. Their fast hosting platform was built from the ground up, and their customer support team goes above and beyond to help resolve any issues you may encounter.

Price Range Per Month: £4.99 – £29.99

Krystal

Krystal, founded in 2002 by two friends, is one of the biggest independent cPanel web hosting companies in the UK that has an outstanding reputation.

Krystal is another great UK hosting company that is largely security-focused. Customer support is quick to respond to support queries and they offer great server speeds at reasonable prices.

Price Range Per Month: £4.99 – £140.99

Guru.co.uk

GURU was founded by the people behind UKDedicated — one of the longest-serving and well-respected hosting companies in the UK. Guru offers fully managed cPanel LiteSpeed-powered web hosting. Account types include shared, reseller & dedicated (VPS).

Guru is a fantastic web host. Their servers are fast and secure and customer support is great. If I wanted to nitpick, I would say that support can sometimes take longer than expected to respond, but this happens on rare occasions.

Price Range Per Month: £4.99 – £349

One.com

One.com was established in 2002 in Denmark and is today one of the leading companies in Europe in the provision of domain names and sales of web hosting services.

One.com is reasonably priced and offers excellent services at all levels. Just make sure you read the small print in regard to renewal costs, introductory prices are for 12 months only.

Price Range Per Month: £4.99 – £23.99

Kualo

Kualo was established in 2002 and offers a range of cPanel-based hosting accounts. Kualo has the scalability, dedication, experience and ability to host any sized online business.

Despite being a smaller hosting company, Kualo still packs a punch and I would recommend them over GoDaddy anytime.  Support is very active and quick to respond. Servers are fast, and you have the option to boost accounts with one click. Kualo is hosted on 100% renewable energy.

Price Range Per Month: £9.99 – £49.99

Pickaweb

Pickaweb was founded in 2000 as a web hosting provider offering professional and affordable cPanel shared web hosting. Pickaweb offers 24/7/365 support via chat, phone and email.

Pickaweb has a good reputation amongst Trustpilot customers and I did not experience any problems with them when testing their hosting service. What I will say is that if you have a busy, resource-demanding website, Pickaweb may not be the best choice for you.

Price Range Per Month: £4.99 – £75.95

SiteGround

Founded in 2004 by a few university friends, SiteGround is now one of the world’s leading web hosting companies. SiteGround is best known as a WordPress host but can also accommodate any type of PHP-based website.

SiteGround is a very reliable company that now hosts over 500,000 websites and they are not slowing down. They are a little pricier than most shared hosts due to the choice of technology (Google Cloud) but their level of service more than makes up for this.

Brixly is a family-owned cPanel web host with an ongoing goal to provide enterprise-grade solutions to the reseller market.

Brixly has a platform dedicated to high performance and caters to all website sizes. This company is ideal if you are looking for a low-cost entry-level host with all the features you need to get started.

HostPapa

HostPapa is a budget web host established in the US. They have UK servers at very cheap prices and offer cPanel-based hosting powered by renewable green energy. HostPapa is an established, privately owned company.

123reg is a reputable brand but is better known for domain registrations. Web hosting offerings are on the basic side, and you would be better off with a company that specialises in web hosting. Nevertheless, if you have a small website and want a basic online presence, then 123reg is an ok choice.

1&1 Ionos

IONOS formerly known as 1&1 was founded in 1988 in Germany. IONOS currently offer a wide range of web hosting products, including email solutions and high-end servers in 10 different countries, including the UK.

Easyspace was founded in 1997. Easyspace web hosting services include a free domain name worth up to £12.50 and hosting packages start from as little as £2.25 per month.

Easyspace has an adequate web hosting service; make sure you check their pricing structure to avoid surprises.

Price Range Per Month: £2.99 – £199.99

UK Cheapest

UK Cheapest, founded in 2002, is a UK company offering domains, hosting, a website builder and SSL security products.

Price Range Per Month: £1.95 – £14.95

Tsohost

Tsohost was an independent UK web hosting company that was swallowed by GoDaddy. Tsohost offered high-performance cloud web hosting, VPS hosting and dedicated servers.

Sadly Tsohost is no longer the same company after being acquired by GoDaddy. Their cloud platform is now very slow and very dated. Their cPanel offering, however, is slightly better, so I recommend you go for their cPanel hosting and avoid their cloud hosting service. Their support is decent enough, but there are better choices out there.

Price Range Per Month: £15.16 – £95.96

Eco Web Hosting

Eco Web Hosting is a UK-based hosting company focusing on fast and eco-friendly web hosting.

Fast Hosts

Fasthosts was founded in 1999 and currently hosts over one million domains. Services include domain names, shared web hosting, business-class email, dedicated servers, cloud servers, secure online storage and online backup.

They have a higher negative rating on Trustpilot than most listed companies on this page. Fasthosts seem to have suffered growing pains and as result, they are constantly underdelivering.

GoDaddy

GoDaddy powers one of the world’s largest cloud platforms dedicated to small, independent websites. With 17 million+ customers worldwide and 73 million domain names under management, GoDaddy is one of the world’s largest web hosts.

GoDaddy may be the biggest but it does not make them the best. Their managed WordPress hosting service is one of the worse services I have ever come across. They also tend to charge for services that most hosts offer for free such as SSL certificates, backups and email forwarders. GoDaddy is like marmite, you either love them or hate them.

How they have managed an excellent rating on Trustpilot is questionable but if all of those reviews are legit then they must be doing something right.

Price Range Per Month: £2,99 – £37.99
