20i LTD was founded by brothers Tim & Jonathan Brealey, who previously created top UK web hosting companies like Webfusion, 123-Reg and Heart Internet. Since its launch in 2016, 20i has quickly grown to become a leading British web host. 20i’s auto-scaling platform and proprietary control panel has set them apart from traditional cPanel shared hosts.

20i’s current Trustpilot rating is excellent. This is based on 1,707 customer reviews at the time of writing.

Update

This 20i review has been revised to remove outdated and irrelevant information. Notably, 20i has transitioned from its previous offering of shared web hosting to a more focused approach to managed cloud hosting.

How Good Is 20i?

The views and opinions expressed in this review are my own based on my personal experiences with 20i. This review presents a biased perspective stemming from my individual dealings with the company. I recommend doing further research on Trustpilot and other review sites, and ultimately making your own informed decision about 20i as a company.

I have worked with many web hosts over the years, and without hesitation, I can honestly say 20i is up there with the very best

20i provides excellent customer support and responds to support requests very quickly.

20i distinguishes itself from many competitors through its use of advanced load-balancing infrastructure and auto-scaling capabilities. Load balancing spreads website traffic across multiple servers, avoiding single points of failure. Auto-scaling automatically allocates more computing power when a website experiences spikes in traffic. These innovations allow 20i to efficiently scale websites up and down based on demand. By implementing cutting-edge infrastructure, 20i has made hosting with them an exciting experience marked by strong uptime and performance.

Great For Reselling

If you are a web designer, an agency or just someone who wants to earn a little extra on the side, their white-label reseller plan is great value for money.

As a reseller, you get robust hosting capabilities to support your customers, including:

  • Unlimited websites and unrestricted resources
  • Unlimited 10GB mailboxes
  • Backups, vanity nameservers, and DDoS protection available as add-ons
  • Free global CDN
  • Choice of Linux, WordPress, or Windows platforms
  • Advanced WordPress toolkit

Additionally, you receive significant discounts on supplemental services like VPS servers, cloud hosting, SSL certificates, and domain names.

As a reseller, you can customise the entire customer experience by branding it in your own colours for a professional touch. Hostshop is their eCommerce platform that allows you to bill customers directly without needing separate billing software like WHMCS. Essentially, Hostshop provides resellers with a fully integrated system to manage customers from purchase to billing in your own branding.

20i offers both managed and unmanaged VPS hosting plans to meet different needs. Their managed VPS plans start at £9.99 per month and include their custom control panel, unlimited 10GB mailboxes, and advanced features like auto-scaling capabilities.

For those wanting more control, they offer unmanaged VPS servers starting at £9.99 per month. You can install from 11 different Linux distributions or use one-click apps for a streamlined setup.

20i offers a user-friendly control panel to simplify management if you choose managed hosting. For shared hosting, you can select WordPress, Windows, or Linux operating systems. The Linux platform provides one-click installation for over 80 different applications. An additional benefit is their WordPress toolkit which includes helpful features like an in-house caching plugin, staging sites, mass updating tools, user management, and more.

In summary, 20i has competitively-priced hosting plans to match different needs, whether you want the convenience of managed VPS, the flexibility of unmanaged VPS, or the simplicity of shared hosting.

Is 20i Expensive?

20i has shifted to provide fully managed cloud hosting on its platform. This cloud infrastructure means pricing starts at around 40%-50% more than basic shared hosts. However, the premium provides significant additional value through increased reliability, scalability, and performance.

20i’s managed cloud hosting utilises both Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud platforms as well as 20i’s own proprietary infrastructure. It includes unlimited websites, free SSL certificates, daily backups, unlimited 10GB mailboxes, malware scanning, DDoS protection, a global content delivery network, and performance optimisation features. With this robust managed solution, increased costs deliver proportional benefits.

Takeaway

Initially, I was somewhat disappointed to learn that 20i had discontinued their shared hosting plans. However, as a reseller, this change did not affect me, and I continue to have full access to their shared platform, which remains an ideal choice for hosting small websites. The introduction of their new managed cloud platform is a great and welcomed addition. Previously, only Cloudways offered such a service, but now you have the option to host everything under one roof giving you access to premium infrastructure providers, making management easier and more convenient.

20i is a strong option to consider for UK WordPress hosting, especially for sites with high traffic and resource needs. Their managed hosting platform offers reliability, security, speed, and on-demand access to resources to support WordPress sites. When evaluating WordPress hosts, be sure to research their features, resources, reputation, and costs to find the right fit for your specific needs. 20i is worth exploring if you want hands-off managed hosting with good WordPress support. But as always, do your homework to determine the best WordPress host for your website and budget.
